Regionals

First, I have to say how proud I am of Makenna. To do some of the things she has done (in any grade) is spectacular. At regionals she shot a 101 but the cut was 94. So she will not go to state this year. Looking at the results, Mj was 33 out of 75 girls. Only 27 made the cut. She played hard. And she shot better on the back 9 which is harder than the front. Duke was a pretty course but challenging. So her freshman golf year(at the high school) is over. She will play in other separate tournaments during the year to get practice. FYI, Makenna ended the year #1 on her team and 4th or 5th (still not sure) individually in her conference. That is awesome. Good job Makenna. I am very proud of you.

Tyler's game

While my Mom & Aunt were in town, Tyler had a game. He has been going with Mike to the batting cages quite a bit. And I do believe it is paying off. He hit 3 times & each time crushed the ball. Two of them went past the right fielders head and rolled pretty darn close to the fence. He got to second base both times. He also pitched & did great. No runs scored while he was pitching. Awesome :) He was so excited & was grinning ear to ear. I think he wanted to impress his Grandma & Great Aunt. And he did. Great job Ty!

High school Golf

Makenna's regular golf season is over. She ended up as the #1 golfer on her school's team and individually #4 in the Greater Neuse River Conference. Which is outstanding!! Just to give a little perspective she is overall #4 in her conference and I am guessing there is a total of about 35 girls and 7 schools that play. Very nice! She is headed to Regionals next, so she has been practicing a lot. Regionals are on the 24th at Duke University. They will play 18 holes and not quite sure how it works but I think the top 26 move on to State which is played at Pinehurst. So wish her luck.

Parade & Pitching

It was homecoming week at Makenna's high school. On Friday they had a parade and the fall sports teams got to be in the parade. So the girls golf team made a few posters & jumped in the back of a teacher's pick up truck. Oh and of course they had candy to throw to people (Makenna aimed at people, well mainly her Dad). I do think she really enjoys being on a team. She will do her last regular tournament on Tuesday & she will be first seed again. Way to go girl. (Oh I did sneak my camera at her last tournament, she doesn't like me taking pictures so I'll add a few of those--she has the blue & white on).

I got some pictures of Tyler pitching at his last game. He did really well, although his team did lose. I think he enjoys that position but knows a lot of pressure comes with it. He plays until the end of Oct. so I will be posting more about his fall ball. Keep up the good work, Tyler!

Player of the week

Makenna did great at her tournament yesterday. She shot a 41 & got 2nd place overall. Her team did not fair so well. They got 3rd place. But Makenna has moved up in the rankings, she should be at least in 4th place overall---that is so fantastic! She also is player of the week in our local paper :) I am so excited for her. As a freshman she is doing great. In fact, she is now in 1st place on her team! Whoot whoot! Awesome job girl!

Tyler

I managed to get some pictures of Tyler at a fall ball game. Although it was a bit difficult because I am still trying to figure out the camera Mike got me for Christmas. Even Mike & Makenna tried taking pictures but they seemed too dark or blurry. Anyway, here are some that turned out ok. Btw, he had another great game. Got another triple. Whoot whoot! Makenna told him before the game that if he got someone out or got to second base or better she would buy him something from the concession stand. He did both so he said he wants 2 things from the stand :) Tyler also told Makenna that if she got an eagle or shot 45 or better he would buy her a candy bar. Her tournament is tomorrow so I'll let ya know if she does either or both. Should I be worried my children like to put wagers on their games? hmmmm, don't know where they get it from (I bet ya a buck I can find out, hehehe just kidding). Oh, if you look at the picture of Ty running into home plate, the umpire is Makenna's golf coach (he is a busy man).

Golf

Makenna only had one tournament this week & well, she did ok. She shot in the 50's but unfortunately so did everyone else on her team so they got 3rd place. Now overall, her team is in 2nd. The coach doesn't think they can move up to first now (there are only 2 tournament left). So he is working on getting the girls ready for regionals. Well, the girls that qualify anyway. Would you like to know if Makenna's qualifies for regionals?! Yep, she does. They take place on Oct24th at Duke University. They will play 18 holes. Pretty exciting. The next two weeks she will be practicing a LOT & there is one school tournament a week. Tyler only had one game this week & it got rained out so no news there. But he has two games this week so I'll keep ya posted.

Weekly Update

As usual both children had games/tournaments this week. And as usual they did great (spoken by a proud Mama). Tyler has been practicing pitching and let the coach know he would like to pitch during a game. And he got his chance. The coach put him in on Tuesday's game. I wasn't there (sad face) but Mike kept me posted. He struck out one player, hit a batter (oops)walked 2 and 2 runs scored the two innings he pitched (they only let you pitch 2 innings). I asked Mike if he took a picture, he didn't (another sad face). I'm sure they will use him again so I'll take a picture. Tyler also hit a true triple this game. No errors, it was just a solid hit. Great job Ty.
I was at Makenna's tournament that day. It was a conference match, if fact the rest are all conference matches. At the county match last week on this same course, she shot a 52. So when she started to par some holes, we got excited. She was hitting her driver really well, something she was struggling with before. She ended the match with a 45. Yay! I was so excited for her. I kept hearing that everyone else didn't do well. So I thought she had a great chance to get medalist (#1 spot with all the schools). The top senior in Johnston County shot a 44. Ohhhhh so close. 1 shot away from medalist. But that's ok. She was that close to beating the #1 player who is a senior. Sweet! I am so proud.

So Busy

Sports are keeping Mike & I very busy. Tyler had 2 games this week. Last night he had an awesome game. In the first inning he had an in the park home run. Whoot! Whoot! He crushed the ball past the shortstop then rolled past the outfielder towards the fence. By the time they threw it in, he was on his way to third base and the third baseman dropped the ball so Tyler kept running. I wish I would of had my camera to get a picture of him when he was on his way home. The biggest grin on his sweet little face. They threw the ball home but not in time, Tyler was safe. An in the park home run!!! Yay, Tyler! It was one of those moments you know you'll never forget (him or his parents). So next time you see Ty, give him a big 'ol high five for his home run :)

Makenna had 2 tournaments & practice on the other nights. Her tournament on Thursday did not go as well as the one on Tuesday. I think it was because Mike & I were not there. We both went to Tyler's game (glad we did). Plus MJ has been saying she wants to go by herself sometimes, understandable. The two times we were not there she shot in the 50's. Thursday she shot a 51 but the medalist (winner from all the schools) shot a 49 so it was a tough course. Her coach gave us some promising news, he thinks she will make regionals. We won't know for sure until the season is over (which is the week of Oct 12, I think). I guess to make regionals you need to average 50 or under. Next week though they start playing from the gold tees----they are further back than the red tees that they have been playing. So that might add a few strokes. We will have to wait & see.

Makenna

Makenna had another tournament on Tuesday, this was a conference match (btw, conference matches are the ones that count). We were hoping she would do good because she has been in a bit of a slump. Over the weekend when she played at Riverwood she did not do good (to put it nicely). Then on her high school county match on Monday she did fair, she shot a 48. I went to this match (Mike had to work, shocking I know) & enjoyed watching her play. She looks like a little professional (except she doesn't make the swoosh sounds like they do after a shot). And she was shooting par thru the first 3 holes. Yay! She ended the match with a 44. Very satisfied with that. Although the rest of her team did not do so well. They ended up in 3rd as a team. Makenna said "Oh well, at least its not my fault this time". Hehehehe

Tyler's Fall Ball

Tyler had his first fall ball game last night. Let me first mention a few things: 1. Tyler always get on a team that has a red shirt (he has so many red t-shirts, socks & hats), 2. If you look at the picture of the back of Ty's red shirt it says LeeHyundai.com that's because Mike's work sponsored his team (so cool, I did joke with Tyler that his shirt was going to be special & say "I love Daddy"), 3. We had a late game which means it started at 7:45 so we did not get home until 9:55 & he got in bed about 10:15--yikes!(and on a school night!) Ok, back to the game, Tyler hit the ball twice (each time got to second base) and walked once. He made a great throw from center field to home plate to stop a run & had a collision on first base (I do believe he enjoyed that the most). He was on second base and the ball went between 1st & 2nd so Tyler & the 1st baseman went for it. Tyler came up with it but there was no one on 1st to throw it to so he ran to touch the base before the runner, he did get there first but by a second so the runner & Ty collided. Don't worry he's fine. So I would say he had a great game. And his team, the Cardinals won 8-5. Good job Tyler. I had lots of fun watching you play so confidently.
